Level 2

Level 3

Participant feedback and advice

Month 0, 3 and 6

Non-personalised dietary advice (energy intake, fruits and vegetables, whole-grain products, fish, dairy products, meat, type of fat and salt)

Non-personalised PA advice (at least 150 min of moderate intensity PA per week or 75 min of vigorous intensity PA per week or an equivalent combination of moderate- and vigorous intensity activity) (WHO 2010)

Month 0, 1, 2, 3 and 6

Feedback on how food groups intakes compare with guidelines (to optimise the consumption of fruits and vegetables, whole-grain products, fish, dairy products and meat)

 Participant anthropometric profile (weight, BMI)

Participant PA Profile (Baecke Questionnaire and Accelerometry)a

Participant nutritional profile based on the online-FFQ (protein, carbohydrates, total fat, monounsaturated fat, polyunsaturated fat, saturated fat, salt, omega-3, fibre, calcium, iron, vitamin A, folate, thiamine, riboflavin, vitamin B12, vitamin C)

Personalised advice for: weight, PA and dietary intake

Month 0, 1, 2, 3 and 6

Feedback on how food groups intakes compare with guidelines (to optimise the consumption of fruits and vegetables, whole-grain products, fish, dairy products and meat)

Participant anthropometric profile (weight, BMI, WC)

Participant PA profile (Baecke Questionnaire and Accelerometry)a

Participant nutritional profile based on the online-FFQ (protein, carbohydrates, total fat, monounsaturated fat, polyunsaturated fat, saturated fat, salt, omega-3, fibre, calcium, iron, vitamin A, folate, thiamine, riboflavin, vitamin B12, vitamin C)

Participant blood profile related to nutrition (glucose, total cholesterol, carotenes, n-3 index)b

Personalised advice for: weight, WC, PA, dietary intake and blood markers

Month 0, 1, 2, 3 and 6

Feedback on how food groups intakes compare with guidelines (to optimise the consumption of fruits and vegetables, whole-grain products, fish, dairy products and meat)

Participant Anthropometric Profile (weight, BMI, WC)

Participant PA profile (Baecke Questionnaire and Accelerometry)a

Participant nutritional profile based on the online-FFQ (protein, carbohydrates, total fat, monounsaturated fat, polyunsaturated fat, saturated fat, salt, omega-3, fibre, calcium, iron, vitamin A, folate, thiamine, riboflavin, vitamin B12, vitamin C)

Participant blood profile related to nutrition (glucose, total cholesterol, carotenes, n-3 index)b

Participant genetic profile related to nutrition (MTHFR, FTO, TCF7L2, APOE ε4 and FADS1 genes)

Personalised advice for: weight, WC, PA and dietary intake, blood and genetic markers

  1. Feedback provided at month 1 and 2 for L1, L2 and L3 was only for those participants in the high-intensity group
  2. FFQ Food Frequency Questionnaire, BMI body mass index, WC waist circumference, PA physical activity
  3. aFeedback on participants PA profile for the “low-intensity” group was derived from accelerometer. The Baecke Questionnaire (Baecke et al. 1982) was used only when insufficient data were available from the accelerometer. For participants in the “high-Intensity” group, both accelerometry and the Baecke questionnaire were used
  4. bFeedback on blood profile related to nutrition was only available for month 0, 3 and 6 for both low- and high-intensity groups
