DHA suppressed cerulein-induced activation of zymogens in AR42J cells. Cells were pretreated with the indicated concentrations of DHA for 2 h and were then stimulated with cerulein (10−8 M) for 2 h. a Trypsin activity was assayed using a fluorogenic assay with a trypsin-specific substrate. Trypsin activity was expressed as milliunits per microgram protein. b The amount of secreted amylase was determined in the media, and total amylase activity was determined in cells using an Amylase Activity Colorimetric Assay kit. Amylase release was expressed as the percentage of secreted amylase/total amylase activity. Data were expressed as the mean ± S.E. of three independent experiments. *p < 0.05 vs. cells without any stimulation or treatment, +p < 0.05 vs. cells with cerulein stimulation alone
