Mucin-1 protein expression is presented in the small framed picture overlying the image taken for normalization (illustrating total protein load on the gel by UV-activated tryptophan residues): the intensity of each mucin-1-specific band was normalized (NI) to the blackness of its underlying total protein lane. Resulting NI values were compared to the control which was set to NI = 1. MUC1 was up-regulated in all treatment groups receiving either GABA or glutamine (Gln) compared with the control tissues
